Dear Parents, Guardians and North Country neighbors.
The vote for our schools' budget will take place next week on Tuesday. At this month's parent meeting at Stafford, a few of us had a lot of questions and concerns about our school budget. Upon doing our taxes, we observed that the "savings" that we have experienced as tax-payers for the last two years were quite insignificant (below $100 each year) and still, our schools keep losing positions, programs and opportunities for our kids. This has been for sure an awakening year for many parents to the realization that our public schools' struggles are much more serious than we would have thought. At least for the parents who serve in the Family School Organizations in our district, be it as officers or just as parents who constantly help out in one way or another, this year has certainly changed the conversations in our monthly meetings out of the need of learning as much as we can on what is going on.
There was a discussion about schools' budgets in Plattsburgh and the North Country, on Thursday May 15th at 7 in the Plattsburgh High School. Mr. Kevin Mulligan, a former teacher, principal and superintendent who has worked in the North Country for many years helped parents learn more about school budgets, addressed our concerns and answer our questions.
